Making a Magazine

Magazine spread mockup cover

Objective

The objective of this project was to show how graphic design, photo masking and product photography all work in conjunction to create a successful magazine spread.

Technologies used: Adobe Illustrator,  Adobe Photoshop Adobe Bridge, Canon  Rebel T5i

Inspiration

The first steps in creating a magazine spread is to decide upon a topic.  The United States Marine Corps holds a special place in my heart and I find the photos of the Marines in uniform are striking and memorable.

Editing Photos

The next step in creating the spread and cover are taking the photographs.  All the photographs require photo editing and masking to prep the images for the magazine layout.

Designing the Layout

After editing and masking all the photographs, the layout must be created.  As you can see multiple layers are necessary to achieve the best possible design. In this case, different grid combinations along with various shapes and gradients allow for the most esthetic appearance.
