Story Behind the Design

So much wealth and power, and all under constant attack. The value of technology and data has skyrocketed, and so has the value of stealing and disrupting the services that rely upon it. Cybercrime and cyber wars are adding up: according to a report published jointly between McAfee and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the costs of these operations are in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Challenges and Solutions

My main challenge was trying to depict a cyber army without the use of bots.

  • AI mainly depicted by robotic figures
  • people find that terrifying

Concept

  • To portray a sense of protection in a safe and comforting way

Solutions

  • Use Statue of Liberty to portray protection
    • A symbol of freedom, liberty, and justice
    • People find her comforting
    • Gives ease to viewers during a time of security-insecurity.

Final Wired Magazine Cover

I chose to use the green color pallet to set the ominous tone of cyber warfare.  The font choices were selected to tie in the technology aspect of the cover story.
